People often ask me why I was a Futurist? The interesting thing is that our thoughts are formed to plan for the future, perhaps this is why the human species indeed made this far. Unfortunately, if we do not advance to plan and throw caution to the wind too often we make bad decisions, and instead the law of unintended consequences prevails.
You see, we are all futurists in reality and to what extent a futuristic you will depend on how far into the future willing to think. Scary for some people, for others and for entertaining a few very serious.
Originally I joined the World Future Society just to review their book lists to get and was not disappointed, that alone was worth the fee. To be a futuristic all you really need to do is to proclaim yourself so and think about future. Of course if you want groups you can join the World Future Society WFS or join.
After a while I was afraid that the WFS everyone something to read to tell and teach them how to think of a futuristic are. They have courses and seminars on how to think like a futurist. Then it occurred to me, no wonder I'm always, or most always correct and the other futurists are often far away in estimating the future.
You see the real problem is that if you tell everyone how to think and read what they all begin to think alike, then check with each other to prove their accuracy.
Anyway, I'm glad to have seen this for the current article as of the fact that the membership renewal is in my 'To Do' pile. The futurists have taken some flak from the media at times and yet at other times the media clings to every word. Indeed, I defend them against an attack of Wired Magazine, although I must say they deserve a tad bit of criticism for so many false predictions. Learn about 2 / 3 of the page;

I sometimes worry that the Futurists always so belittled and politics loss of understanding the other side of the fence. I think it is dangerous to limit thought like that. I deliberately go out of my way to hear what people think differently than I have to say. Some futurists would just pad their resumes, I think that the short sides, including the fight against the value and purpose.
Actually, I'm sure it can be done much better. I do not think injecting political party lines reflects the future we all seek. If everyone fighting over resources, no one wins in the end. And the blame games begin "I told you so" and does nobody any good. But what do I know? I'm just another self-proclaimed futurist?
