In recent years battery-powered RC helicopters have become much more common and more popular. This is partly because they are less difficult to operate than earlier electric or gas-powered models, which means that even novices can quickly and easily enjoy the success they fly. electric RC helicopters today are also smaller, lighter and easier transportation and perhaps most importantly, much cheaper than in the past.
There are three main types of RC helicopters, each of increasing complexity and difficulty control: coaxial, fixed pitch, and toughest, pitch helicopters. Until recently, the majority of RC helicopters helicopters mirrored by default, with a main rotor and tail rotor. Main rotors generate much torque, that nothing would result in the helicopter constantly spinning in circles. The tail rotor generates torque in the opposite direction, canceling the main rotor torque and accountable as possible lateral, forward and backward motion. Coaxial helicopter technology works differently: coaxial RC helicopters have two rotors, each turning in the opposite direction and cancel the others' torque. Without getting too technical, suffice it to say that this type of blade design the most stability and ease of flying and many beginners choose to learn on coaxial models.
Both fixed pitch helicopters and use a single primary and tail rotor. Fixed pitch helicopters are more challenging than coaxial but still suitable for beginners who are willing to put in a little more initial effort. They are able more complex movements and fun to fly once the basics are mastered. Hardest of all to use, and certainly not for beginners, pitch helicopters. With more channels of control the agility to increase pitch models are able to perform 3-D aerobatics, a highly advanced and very competitive style of helicopter flying. They are also the least stable of the three, the highest initial costs and replacement parts are not cheap. If you are serious about flying RC helicopters, you will almost certainly want a collective pitch model at some point, but not until you have logged many hours of practice and be fully accomplished pilot.
