How Many of You Love Fighter Jets?

I remember as a kid my dad took me to an air show at Dobbins Air Force in Marietta GA. I remember seeing all this different jets and gaining a great fascination, mainly because of the Blue Angels. I mean I had toys, scale models and video games. When I saw the movie “Top Gun” my love for jets grew even more. So I was wondering whatever happened to these jets…..

1. F-14 Tomcat (My Favorite)
2. F-18 Hornet
3. F-15 Eagle
4. F-16 Falcon
5. SR-71 Blackbird
6. A-10 ThunderBolt

1. The F14 was phased out by the F18. Aside from a few remaining aircraft, not regularly used by the US.
2. The F18 is still in use by the Navy/Marine Corps and will slowly be replaced by the F35.
3. F15 is still in service and used by the USAF, as it’s a ground-takeoff based aircraft.
4. F16 is also still in use and fielded by the USAF, and both the F16 and F15 will remain in use for a long time (until at least 2020).
5. SR 71 I thought I wanted to fly those as a kid, but it was primarily supposed to be used a Cold War Era weapon, capable of allegedly out running and out maneuvering enemy ordinance. As such, it has been retired.
6. A10 has honestly been around for ever, and is a versatile and hard piece of equipment to break, excellent for close-air support, but inferior for other uses. Fielded by the USAF as well, and also scheduled to remain in service until around the same time period as the F15/16.

Nearly all of the above are scheduled to be replaced by the F35, but not until a while from now.
